This page will discuss the sensory challenges of ASD and the ways in which the arts can be used to explore these challenges with those on the spectrum as well as their families. It will also discuss the means of communication offered by the arts for those with limited language skills... It will provide links to research and films about art therapy and ASD.
It will outline our ethos in working with ASD: that working with ASD is essentially about working with difference. That each individual on the spectrum has a unique window of experience through which he/she relates to the world and art therapy is about getting to know the unique person behind the label and working together with them to discover what they find most helpful, supportive and regulating, as well as what might be then adapted to other areas of their lives in order to assist their general learning, development and wellbeing. Always committed to the standard of 'different but not less than'.
